Biography

Emanuele Fortunati is a conceptual artist who investigates the structural tension between individual and collective identity.

His work calls into question the idea that identity must be coherent: contradiction is treated not as a lack or a flaw, but as the inevitable condition of the conflict between who we are and who we choose to be.

Through symbolic systems and a process that alternates spontaneous impulse with regulating intervention, Fortunati stages this dynamic without resolving it, making it visible in its irresolution.

The works that emerge carry the marks of that tension and reveal the forces that compose it: opposing fields that clash and meet, raw and symbolic signs, chaos with a structure.

His paintings have been included in the international catalogue Alfabeto Astratto 2024 and exhibited at Palazzo dell’Emiciclo in L’Aquila, Museo Bellini in Florence and AAIEE Gallery Center in Rome, alongside international artists under the artistic direction of Miguel Gomez. Some of his works have also been reinterpreted in textile form and presented at Milano Fashion Week 2025 and the Cannes Film Festival.

In his most recent developments, Fortunati’s practice extends beyond painting towards installations and participatory experiences, conceived as spaces where viewers are led to recognise their own contradictions as a constitutive part of being human.
