Statement

My work grows out of a tension I consider structural: the tension between individual and collective identity.

It is an inner conflict that arises whenever the need to be oneself collides with the need to belong, and that no choice, not even the most radical, can resolve once and for all.

I discovered it first-hand. After years of seeking a place in society by respecting all of its conventions, I moved to the opposite extreme, nonconformity, in search of authenticity.

But in both cases, being coherent with my choice felt like giving up a part of myself.

From this experience comes a precise position: I call into question the idea that identity must be coherent.

I do not see contradiction as a flaw or a phase of transition, but as an inevitable condition: an identity that moves between poles, even opposite ones, without ever settling into a definitive form.

What interests me is making this condition visible.

Just as Beuys considered the process itself to be the work, my body of work does not end with the final object. It includes the research, the creative ritual, the decomposition of the conflict and its formal translation. But where Beuys proposed transformation, I offer recognition. Not a way out of the conflict, but the conditions to inhabit it.

My process begins with the observation of a conflict, within me or in the world, sometimes in dialogue with others. I decompose it: I take that conflict into the body and paint it instinctively and physically, without rational mediation. What emerges on the canvas is not a representation of the conflict. It is its symbolic deposit. From there begins the second, opposite phase: a rational reading of the symbolism, which identifies the specific contradictions that generate it.

The works born from this process carry the marks of that tension: opposing fields that clash and meet, raw gestures and strong symbols, chaos with a structure. Poles that do not resolve, but coexist.

In its most recent developments, this research extends beyond painting towards installations and participatory experiences. My aim is not to communicate a structure to the viewer, but to create the conditions for them to recognise their own.

My research offers no solutions.
